Re: Journal
Sat, November 6, 2004 - 12:43 PMI had a meditation teacher once who highly recommended journaling.
I tried it, but it always felt like the cosmos (or the meditation teacher) was looking over my shoulder trying to lock me into whatever mood I was in at the time of writing - so I dropped it.
Besides, it was too wierd going back over and reading stuff - esp since I think we (esp me) are always in flux, never static.
I find writing poetry or fiction more fun, but they have the same potential effect for me - so most of it goes in the shredder.
Along the same lines however, I have known many people who swear by the practice of journaling, have great success with its aid and only a couple who lacked the introspection skills for it to be of any assistance. -

Re: Journal
Tue, November 9, 2004 - 2:21 PMI usually feel funny/fake praying out loud...and my mind wanders if I'm just doing it in my head...
I write my prayers as letters to God in a couple of different notebooks (one small in my purse, one that I write dreams in in the middle of the night) They usually start with either "please" or "thank you"...I write about things that seem so big I think I can't handle them...
I love to read back and see what seemed unsurmountable just weeks or months before...it helps me with faith in a power greater than myself.
Regular journaling seems to fall into two categories:
Complaints or worries about my sweety or
descriptions of really good sex right after I have it
neither of which seems to justify the time it takes to write it! -

Re: Journal
Tue, November 9, 2004 - 5:14 PMIt's weird but instead of writing in a *journal* per se, I write poetry. I let me pour out in the form of poetic verse. My thoughts on sexual/domestic abuse are in this form. My thoughts on work and men are also in poetic form. Most intereting is the poetry written about a friend's art work. He's a painter, I write "companion pieces" to his work. We vibe on one another as artists. Actually, it's pretty cool.
